Part 1: What I Do In University – Learn About Plant in Tunku Abdul Rahman Park!

I was cleaning up my computer when I stumbled upon old photos which reminded me of my university years.
I was skinny back then and I don’t drive because I cant afford a car unlike other kids from rich family who drive when they go to class. That’s sad but yeah, that’s a fact, I recently got my driving license though after many years.

So what I did back then in my school year?

Yeah! I learn about plant like how to name them, divide them into Family, Group, Genus (Is that what they call it?) and so on. But I forgot them now. Haha.

There is one trip where we went to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, Pulau Manukan, Manukan Island

For those who are wondering what and where this park is, it is located in Kota Kinabalu Sabah, Malaysia, 3km offshore of Kota Kinabalu. It was named after Malaysia first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman.

The Island which included in Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.

The Park was gazetted in 1974 as Sabah’s second park and comprises of 5 island namely Gaya Island, Manukan Island, Mamutik Island, Sapi island and Sulug Island.

The whole class went there and Our task was to report of plant we found and named them (Find their Family, genus and so on).
If I remember correctly, the whole class was less than 15 people.

We started in Jesselton Point where we boarded the speed boat. I think about 15 to 20 minutes we reach Gaya Island.

One of the Jetty but I forgot which Jetty is this.

We went through a route to the other side of the island and boarded the second speed boat. If I remember correctly, we go direct to Manukan Island.

Some of the plant that I recorded.

I don’t even know what is this flower. But Its amazing that there’s a lot of plants that you can see here.

And another weird plant!

So when you reach the island especially the Manukan island, you’ll amazed by the white sandy beach and also the fish. You can also go on Snorkeling but I was a coward kid back then. Haha.

The fish! They are so many of fish you can even feed them by hand!

I remember one of the tourist fall into the sea because he is into feeding the fish and forget his surrounding!

How to get there?

Its about 13 to 20 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

So the easiest way to get there if you are from Kota Kinabalu International Airports is to grab a taxi or just use GrabCar and tell them your destination is Jesselton Point. But my advice is to use GrabCar. The fare is quite Okay even I already forgot how much they are charging you but at least you can see the fare on the apps. Unlike taxi, they might extra-charge you just because you doesn’t looks like local people.

If you plan to visit this place, don’t forget your camera and your sunblock!

I will keep looking on what I have done during my study, might find something interesting. I will out with part 2 my the series What I Do In University.
